What is Direct Cremation?
Direct Cremation is a low cost alternative to the typical funeral service.
There is no minister and the deceased is taken to the crematorium at a time and date chosen by the funeral director. There are no family present however many families choose to have a memorial service at a later date to celebrate their loved-one's life.
The decision to opt for Direct Cremation often isn't due to financial reasons. Many family members choose this option as it has been requested by the deceased.
Some people just like things to be simple and don't want all the bells and whistles that go with a traditional service.
Every funeral we undertake is conducted with the utmost dignity, care and respect for the deceased.
Following the service the ashes will be returned back to the family in the polytainer (the plastic container used by the crematorium) via post.
For an additional £100 the ashes can be placed into a wooden ashes casket with a nameplate before posting.
My loved-one has died, what do I need to do?
Contact us via the link at the bottom of this page.
We will gather all of the relevant information via email or phone (whichever is the most comfortable for you).
If your loved-one passed away in hospital we will contact them to arrange doctors' cremation paperwork to be started.
You will need to register the death as normal. You will be told how to do this by the hospital, however, if you are unsure you can contact us at any time for help. Once the death has been registered you will need to post the registration certificate to us.
Once we receive this and have confirmation the doctors' paperwork is complete, we will collect your loved one and bring them back into our care.
We will post you out the forms for cremation and our invoice for you to sign and send back.
Then we will arrange and carry out the cremation in a dignified and caring way.
You will be notified once this has been completed.
We will collect the ashes within 10 working days and send them back to you via post.

All our plans are administered by Golden Charter.
And are £1744.00 (to include£249.00 plan administration fee).

We are a family-run business and have a great reputation. We look after all of the deceased in our care with the utmost dignity and respect. We have our own premises including state of the art mortuary and body refrigeration. We also have an impressive fleet of hearses and limousines.
We take your loved-one to the crematorium in a Jaguar Hearse (not in a van like some other funeral directors!).

Extra Charges
At Smestow Direct we pride ourselves on being as open and upfront as possible about the costs involved. All of the costs above include everything needed for the funeral service. However in certain circumstances, when for instance the deceased has died at a home address, it is not always possible for us to collect straight away as there are Doctors' cremation forms that need to be filled out. In these instances we will liaise with a family-run funeral director local to the deceased's residence. This will incur additional costs of £350
So a total of £1845.00.
The additional £350 will be invoiced at a later date.
